#BakeTogether Chocolate Truffle Tart – My Way

I finally got around to making my new version of the Chocolate Truffle Tart.. ’bout time.. but I clearly stated in the original post that there were no hard-fast rules to follow only a suggestion that everyone post their versions in May so it looks like I’m ok.

So.. here’s what I did..

First off,  I definitely did some experimenting here – some of which paid off and others, well, not so much. I was going for an exotic flavor angle so I used coconut milk instead of the half and half. In other coconut recipes, I like  reducing  the milk down to really concentrate and intensify the flavor. I did that here too but, you know what, with all that bittersweet chocolate in the filling, I couldn’t taste even a hint of coconut milk. I even tried adding some extract – nothing. Not a single drop of coconut flavor came through. Bottom line: if you want to swap out coconut milk for the half & half for whatever reason, go ahead but don’t expect it to add a layer of flavor.

Next, I folded in 3/4 cup lightly salted, coarsely chopped peanuts to the chocolate before scrapping this lusciousness into the baked crumb crust. This worked and worked hard. If you are a cashew person, they would be great too as would toasted macadamias just make sure they have a little salt on ’em so they balance with the sweet filling.

Topping? Now here’s where I got that hit of coconut that I was craving. Instead of using the vanilla extract, I added 1 teaspoon of coconut extract and then topped this baby with a sprinkle of toasted coconut.. oh yeah..

    I was expecting to see curry in your tart 😉 the addition of cashews to the filling is a GREAT idea! I am thinking of adding hazelnuts to mine since I used Nutella in the mascarpone frosting. I might start a line of “chocolate truffle tarts” because mine has been SO popular, I sell 2-3 every week! Looking forward to the next #baketogether.

      AGH!!! I forgot that I was thinking of adding a touch of sweet curry to the filling! Give it a try and let us all know.. I’d start w 1/2 teaspoon and increase as you taste!!

    I absolutely loved this recipe, Abby! I really loved what you did with it here, especially the salted peanuts which must have added quite the zing! It’s too bad that you couldn’t taste the coconut milk because I can just imagine how wonderful the cocobut flavor would be with the chocolate. I also was thinking of adding toasted cocobut on top butly oddly enough I don’t think any of my men like coconut! Crazy! This is definitely a recipe I will make over and over again and thanks to you I will be trying new additions and flavor combos each time. Now…. what’s the next challenge???

    I wish we lived close enough so we could taste each other’s creations!

    Abby, this dessert looks like the perfect reward for all of us who’ve made it through 14 weeks of rain, terrible storms and blazing heat & humidity.
    Love the “Bake Together” concept, I’m looking forward to more, and I’m intrigued by the sweet curry discussion above….

    Such gorgeousness here with all of these variations!

    Thinking about the next “challenge”… what should we “baketogether? A kickass cookie? a single layer tea cake? Too soon for a fruit tart with a press-in dough crust? What about ice cream? I know.. that’s not baking but maybe the baking plays into how you “Switch it up”..
